One of our core values is to involve students in ministry. There are a variety of ways in which people may get involved.
PRAYER
We see prayer as our highest privilege and priority. Monthly all-night prayer chains, daily prayer meetings, and fasting are an integral part of how and why we exist.
DISCIPLESHIP
In-depth teaching into the basics of the Christian faith for those who want to know more about the Bible and how to apply it in their lives.
LEADERSHIP RETREATS
Once a semester, we meet to plan and chart out our vision/mission, learning how to be more effective in serving God and His people. Time is also given to developing leadership and communication skills.
MINISTRY TEAMS
Periodically, we travel to other campuses, churches, take missions trips, help with inner-city ministries, church building projects, etc. We emphasize regular community service in order to influence our neighbors and simply to lend a helping hand.
CARE
We take Matthew 25 seriously when it comes to ministering to the "leasts" or marginalized people in society. We hope to minister to all people with the gifts, skills, and grace that God gives us.
- C-U Internationals - The U of I ranks 4th in international student populations. We connect through service, social events, teaching English, etc. Contact Sarah Allen for more information.
- LGBT - God has given us a heart for the LGBT community for the past 5 years. What an incredible expression fo Christ's unconditional love by buildling bridges between 2 traditionally hostile groups of people. For more info, contact Terry Austria.
- ELDERLY - We host social gatherings and chapel services for the elderly at Clark-Lindsey and other nursing homes. We're always looking for more volunteers to serve senior adults. Contact Bridget Jones.
- HOMELESS - There are close to 500 homeless people in C-U. We serve by food distriubtion in our Food Pantry and providing practical items (soap, toothbrushes, etc.). Our eventual goal is to expand that ministry by teaching life skills to help folks get back on their feet in a dignified manner. Contact Jon Davis.
